12/10 Weekly Update

We are collecting supplies for our new teacher in the fifth grade.  We would like them to be ready to go when we get back from winter break.  Some needed things would be:
glue sticks
clorox wipes
colored pens
loose leaf notebook paper

Thanks for donating items!

The winter break party is coming soon.  If you haven't signed up to help out or send supplies in, please do so below.

Thank you for everyone who sent in money for the Ellison family.  Mr. Bengston's class raised the most, and fifth grade led the pack in donations for grade levels.  The total raised was just a little over $2000, and fifth grade raised approximately $900. Great job everybody.

Next week will be the Unit 4 math test.  We will send the study guide home on Friday,

12/4 Weekly Update

Good news everybody!  Mr. Muma is working on opportunities to lower class sizes in our core instruction.  The hope is to get a teacher to teach literacy and math. We are looking forward to his decision.

There is a sign-up genius for the fifth-grade holiday party. It will be low key, but fun.  If you can donate items or help set up that would be great.

It's that time of year when we, BFH, begin our partnership with Cherokee Trail for Make a Wish.  As a fundraiser this year, we would like to sell concessions at the music performances.  If you would like to donate to the concessions so we can have 100% of the profits go to Make a Wish, please send any of the following items to Mrs. Knowlton's room.  We will then use them to sell at the choir performance this Thursday and the 5th grade performance on January 31st.  Thank you in advance for your donations!

Individual Chip Bags
Fruit Snacks
Single Serve Rice Krispy Treats, Oreos, Chips Ahoy etc...
Candy Bars and Individual Size Skittles and Starburst
Water Bottles

11/13 Weekly Update

Thank you so much for conference week.  It was great seeing all of you and talking about your kiddo!  The beginning of this week is expected to be cold.  We go outside when the weather is 20 degrees and higher.  Make sure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess.  Snow boots are required if they are going to be in the snow.  Otherwise, they need to be on the sidewalks/blacktop. If you wear boots make sure you bring sneakers for gym.

Next week is a short week.  We have school on Monday and Tuesday.  The rest of the week is no school.

Have a great week!

We are asking permission for your fifth graders to see PG rated movies at school.  If you do not want your kiddo to watch PG movies in school, please contact their homeroom teacher and let them know.

Wednesday is Halloween and this is a reminder that we do not wear costumes to school. This is a regular day of learning.

Thursday is the Unit 3 math test. The study guide will go home Tuesday.  Attached is the answer key to the study guide.

We sent home information sheets announcing our annual collection for 'Backpacks for the Homeless'.  Each year the grade level kids bring in items to fill a backpack.  Fifth graders are being encouraged to bring in tuna kits and peanut butter to go cups. Please give if you can!

10/23 Weekly Update

Welcome back to school!  We are hoping your break was fantastic! We are hitting the ground running. All of fifth grade is doing a mystery genre book report. The kids will bring a paper home explaining all the details. The same paper is also posted in Schoology.  This project is to be done at home. They will need a cereal box to present their information. If they need any other supplies, please have them ask their teacher.  All students will check out or borrow a book that is a mystery. Their project will be due on Friday, November 16th.

This Friday is the Story Book Ball at Black Forest Hills. There is Trunk and Treating and food to eat.  Come and enjoy our annual event. PTCO is still looking for volunteers so check out Hootie's Highlights to sign up.

We are attaching the signup genius for fall conferences. They will be on Tuesday, November 6th and Wednesday, November 7th.  After you meet for your student led conference, if you'd still like to talk with a teacher, you can sign up for an individual conference on Friday, November 9th.  We wanted to give you a heads up so you can plan accordingly.
